Original article:-

Since the start of the voucher scheme in March 2021 to help families who require mediation services, the Family Mediation Council and Ministry of Justice have extended the scheme. When originally introduced there was £1 million provided, but it has been so successful that the Ministry of Justice has agreed to provide a further £800,000 to distribute in family mediation vouchers. This is a temporary scheme and only available for as long as the funds last – once it’s gone, it’s gone!

The aim is to keep couples out of Court, avoid stressful, costly processes and to encourage the parties to talk and make decisions together as to what is best for their family and children.

Burley Geach Solicitors LLP have registered for this scheme to benefit couples who may wish to take advantage. We provide a thorough and informative mediation service and always aim to help the couple achieve the best outcome for their family.

How much is available?

The vouchers cover up to £500 inclusive of VAT and are allocated on a first come first served basis. They are not means tested and not repayable. They are limited to one voucher per family to discuss children arrangements only during the mediation.

How can I apply?

A couple must first attend a separate MIAM (Mediation Information & Assessment Meeting) appointment with the mediator. Both must agree to applying once only for a voucher to discuss children arrangements. They must sign a consent form.  We will then apply for the voucher which is granted within approximately one week and must be used within 4 months.

The voucher is allocated to the time spent during the mediation sessions. However, there will still be charges for time spent on preparation and drafting of documents and agreements etc.   Full costs and funding options will be explained in advance during the separate MIAMs.
