Divorce & Relationship Breakdown

The end of a relationship or breakdown in family relations can be very challenging. It is only natural for emotions and anxieties to run high, so you may well feel a little overwhelmed. Issues around family and divorce are a specialist area of law, so obtaining professional advice at an early stage can help you feel informed and more in control of your situation.

Divorce and dissolution

If you are married you may be considering a divorce or dissolution to legally bring your marriage or civil partnership to an end.

Until 2022, it was necessary to prove fault or assign blame, such as unreasonable behaviour, adultery, separation or desertion.  However, IN April 2022 the Divorce Dissolution and Separation Act 2020 introduced a significant change by allowing couples to separate without assigning blame, making the process more straight forward and hopefully reducing conflict.

Most of the time it is unnecessary for any physical attendance at court and the process generally takes three to six months to complete.

We can assist you through each stage of the process, from the issue of a petition through to obtaining the decree absolute.

Finding the right path

Resolving family disputes in a constructive and on-inflammatory way is something that, being Resolution trained, all of our family solicitors have committed to.  This means they will listen to you carefully and then discuss all of the options available to you.  We can explain the process and merits of separating together, mediation, negotiation, arbitration or more formal court proceedings.

Whenever we assist with a divorce, we will consider with you any associated issues such as arrangements for children or the division of finances.

You will have a dedicated solicitor who will guide you through each stage of the process, ensuring that you remain in control and fee fully supported.

If you think you may benefit from speaking to one of our advisers then please do not hesitate to get in contact with your local office.
